Kareena Kapoor Reflects on Reinvention in a Male-Dominated Industry: “Sustaining is Tougher”
Celebrating 25 Years in Bollywood, the Actress Discusses Challenges and Upcoming Projects
Kareena Kapoor, a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, recently shared her thoughts on the challenges of reinventing oneself in a male-dominated space. In an interview with Times of India, she reflected on her 25-year journey in Bollywood and the obstacles female actors face.
The Fear of Reinvention
Speaking candidly, Kareena highlighted that sustaining a career while continually reinventing oneself can be daunting. "At 17-18, it was all about wanting to be in every film. If you sustain for a decade, it’s about reinvention, which is scary in an industry dominated by men,” she explained. “Every five years, I ask myself, what new can I do now? It’s not just about being a part of successful films but leaving behind a legacy.”
Kareena emphasized the importance of making varied choices in her roles, citing her diverse filmography that includes titles like Buckingham Murders, Singham, Crew, and Jaane Jaan. “Sustaining yourself is tougher, so I like to make varied choices,” she added.
#### Navigating a Competitive Landscape
Coming from the illustrious Kapoor family, Kareena expressed the desire to carve out her unique identity in a competitive environment. "I want to leave my mark somewhere," she said, acknowledging the constant influx of new talent in the industry.
Kareena made her Bollywood debut with JP Dutta's Refugee in 2000 and has since starred in numerous iconic films, including Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Jab We Met, and 3 Idiots. Her versatility has allowed her to thrive in various genres, from romantic comedies to action thrillers.
Upcoming Projects
Kareena's next project, Singham Again, directed by Rohit Shetty, is set to hit theaters on November 1, 2024. This action-thriller features a star-studded cast, including Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar. Fans eagerly anticipate her performance alongside such notable co-stars.
As Kareena Kapoor continues her journey in Bollywood, her reflections on reinvention and sustainability highlight the challenges many women face in the film industry, paving the way for future generations of female talent.
